Funny men are dangerous. Not criminally. Usually. I mean romantically. A handsome man can get your attention. A funny man can get past your defenses. This is worse. You are prepared for handsome. You see him coming. You register the suit, the jawline, the smile. Fine. Your brain files the information. Then someone makes you laugh unexpectedly. Now the situation is compromised. Laughter creates intimacy much faster than it should. One minute you are being sensible. The next you are leaning across a table saying, “Stop,” while clearly hoping he does not stop. Dangerous. There is also something very attractive about timing. Humor is timing. Knowing when to say something. When not to. How far to push. When to pull back. <\/p>\n
This overlaps suspiciously with other useful romantic skills. Funny men notice things. The best ones do not simply tell jokes. They observe. They find the absurdity. Because humor makes you feel safe. Then sincerity arrives. Game over. I also suspect couples who laugh together survive ordinary life better. Romance is not constantly cinematic. They make otherwise ordinary nights feel special. They turn mistakes into stories. They make you feel lighter. And perhaps worst of all, they make you want another evening. Looks may open the door.
